Samsung Omnia 7, one of the first handsets that arrived on the market with Microsoft's new Windows Phone 7 operating system on board in October 2010, has just tasted a new ROM, which, apparently, is an unofficial release for it.

Two versions of the said ROM emerged, both dated November 2010, namely I8700XENJK1 and I8700BSEJK1, with the latter offering support for more languages than the former.

The ROMs made an appearance over at samfirmware, which should be a familiar destination for many Samsung fans out there.

According to a recent article on MobileTechWorld, the software is running pretty smooth, and also offers faster speeds than what the previous software on the handset did.

The flashing process took only a few minutes, and things are encouraging: the Marketplace is faster, connectivity the same, and applications run better as well.

What is is uncertain at the moment is whether this is an official release, which made an appearance into the wild earlier than originally expected, or is a ROM compiled by enthusiasts.

For those out of the loop, we should note that Samsung's Omnia series was quite successful until now, that's for sure, and the release of the Omnia 7 handset with Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 platform on board came as a confirmation of this state of facts.

Apparently, the family was so successful that Samsung might soon launch a new Windows Phone 7 device with the same moniker attached to it, namely the Samung Omnia 8, reference to which has just emerged.

Windows Phone 7 ROMs are available for this phone as well, at least this is what samfirmware reports.

Although Samsung did not unveiled something official on this device until now, it does not come too much as a surprise that the company is working on the building of a new Windows Phone 7 product.

The handset vendor has just shut down all support for Symbian, and is expected to focus on Andorid, bada and, of course, Windows Phone 7 for this year's mobile phones.
