Samsung Omnia 2 is expected to soon receive a new software update, one that will bring the operating system it runs under all the way up to Windows Mobile 6.5.3, the latest reports around the Internet suggest. Nothing has been announced officially until now, but rumor has it that the new ROM upgrade for the high-end device should arrive into the wild sometime this week.

According to a recent article on hdblog.it, although the update hasn't been confirmed for the time being, it should arrive within a couple of days. The news site says that users should soon start receiving these official Windows Mobile 6.5.3 ROMs on their mobile phones, and that specific details on the downloading and installation process are expected to emerge soon.

Up until now, the Samsung Omnia 2 has tasted a series of beta ROMs, most of which leaked from various sources. The latest of these ROMs was build JE1, which reportedly included not only the new version of Microsoft's Windows Mobile operating system, but also a series of performance enhancements, as well as the full package of Samsung's software.

Those interested in downloading and installing a Windows Mobile 6.5.3 ROM on Samsung Omnia 2 should head over to hdblog.it for that. However, one should take notice that the ROMs are not official releases, and that they are also beta versions, which means that certain risks are involved in their installation. Moreover, since the official release is rumored to be so close, one might consider waiting for it to arrive, so as to make sure that all things will go according to plan.

Undoubtedly, the Windows Mobile 6.5.3 ROM will offer users an enhanced experience over the previous versions of the OS. Among the features that it is expected to come with, one can count gesture support, which should make the usage of a touchscreen handset like Omnia 2 much easier, as WMPoweruser notes. Unfortunately, no info emerged on whether the OS update will arrive only in Italy, or users in additional markets will also enjoy it.
