Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless and the rumors regarding the availability of Samsung's Omnia 2 on its airwaves have made the headlines once again. Previously expected to be pushed on the shelves sometime in mid-October, it seems that the Windows Mobile-based Omnia 2 won't make an appearance at Verizon before November is here.

According to a recent article on Phone Arena, the Samsung Omnia 2 i920 will come on the first day of the upcoming month, at least this is what a “reliable source” has unveiled. The fact that this phone will hit Verizon is certain, as Samsung already showcased it with Big Red's logo on it at CTIA, yet no official release date for the handset has emerged until now. However, we should also note that WMExperts says that January might actually be the lucky month. Hopefully not.

According to some of the previous rumors, the phone is expected to come with Microsoft's Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system on board, which seems rather strange, considering the a newer flavor, 6.5, has been already unleashed into the wild. On the other hand, the phone might have been delayed on purpose, so that the new Windows Mobile 6.5 can be pre-loaded on it, thought these are only suppositions at the moment (also something that a lot of users are hopping for, that's for sure).

Until something more solid will emerge in this area, we should take a look at another Windows Phone that was available on Verizon up until very recently, the HTC Touch Pro2. Launched by Verizon with WM 6.1 on board, the handset was rapidly tagged as Out of Stock on the carrier's website, until yesterday, when we had the chance to see it available once again. Only that today it is again out of stock, with no visible explanation. If we were to guess, we'd say that either Verizon's users really want the handset or the carrier is working on making it available with Windows Mobile 6.5. Stay tuned to learn what Verizon has in mind with this one.
