Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless and the rumors regarding the availability of Samsung's Omnia 2 on its airwaves have made the headlines once again. Previously expected to be pushed on the shelves sometime in mid-October, it seems that the Windows Mobile-based Omnia 2 won't make an appearance at Verizon before November is here.

According to a recent article on Phone Arena, the Samsung Omnia 2 i920 will come on the first day of the upcoming month, at least this is what a “reliable source” has unveiled. The fact that this phone will hit Verizon is certain, as Samsung already showcased it with Big Red's logo on it at CTIA, yet no official release date for the handset has emerged until now. However, we should also note that WMExperts says that January might actually be the lucky month. Hopefully not.

According to some of the previous rumors, the phone is expected to come with Microsoft's Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system on board, which seems rather strange, considering the a newer flavor, 6.5, has been already unleashed into the wild. On the other hand, the phone might have been delayed on purpose, so that the new Windows Mobile 6.5 can be pre-loaded on it, thought these are only suppositions at the moment (also something that a lot of users are hopping for, that's for sure).

Until something more solid will emerge in this area, we should take a look at another Windows Phone that was available on Verizon up until very recently, the HTC Touch Pro2. Launched by Verizon with WM 6.1 on board, the handset was rapidly tagged as Out of Stock on the carrier's website, until yesterday, when we had the chance to see it available once again. Only that today it is again out of stock, with no visible explanation. If we were to guess, we'd say that either Verizon's users really want the handset or the carrier is working on making it available with Windows Mobile 6.5. Stay tuned to learn what Verizon has in mind with this one.

Would have been interesting news a few months ago. But the "leaks" for the big screen touch device Omnia 2 have worn everyone out.

Now the big deal is the Verizon Droid -- and that one looks like it is real. It's a shame -- the Omnia 2 could have captured a significant market share, but now it will be a "me too".

It is already too late for the Omnia 2 and Verizon. My contract is about to end. It is time to move on. I don't won't to get a year old phone from Verizon.

Verizon customer service said the problem was that the US has a different phone system. I had to keep telling the customer service rep that it is Verizon that has a different phone system, AT&T and T-Mobile both have GSM like the rest of the world. There are no fixes being made to the phone, they are just sitting on it, becuase the other junk phones they are selling can't compete with it.

Verizon reps say maybe next year for the Omnia II. By then who cares.

If the phone is not being sold by them, it does not exist. They don't have any phones I want.

Tired of reading internet articles & blogs with the supposed launch date of this phone from “reliable sources” and "leaks" because it's all BS!

Omnia 2 + Verizon = FAIL

I took it upon myself to visit a Verizon Wireless Store. The clerk there, Edumund, muttered under his breath.

I was told even they are unhappy regarding the lack of information for the Omnia 2. But word is it will be out for Christmas........which year?

I was so pumped up about this phone, like 6 months ago. Like BB King said, "The Thrill is Gone". The ups and downs and the ongoing rumor mills have caused me to really just not care about this device any longer. If it had actually come out, I would have purchased it. On to bigger and better like, um, Droid!!! Bye bye Samsung!!
