Although the Galaxy Note II is too old to be covered by Google’s software update policy that recommends manufacturers to offer major upgrades for their smartphones that are no more than 18 months old, it looks like Samsung is going to make an exception.

Rumors on the possibility of bringing the Galaxy Note II to Android 5.0 Lollipop first popped up last year in December, though the information did not come directly from Samsung through official channels.

Well, those who still own one of the most popular Galaxy Note models will be pleased to know that Samsung has just confirmed the Android 5.0 Lollipop will arrive on the Galaxy Note II.

The information comes via Samsung Poland, though the person handling the company’s Twitter account did not share any details on the timings, so you just have to wait some more until it’s decided.

Since Samsung sold huge amounts of Galaxy Note II devices, there should be quite lot still available on the market, hence the company’s decision to make an exception and put its engineers to work on Android 5.0 Lollipop.

Galaxy Note II will be the oldest Samsung phone to receive Lollipop

However, the Galaxy Note II is likely to be the oldest Samsung smartphone to receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop update, so for those owning other models that are similarly old the only way to get the latest version of Lollipop is to upgrade to another smartphone.

As for the changes that will be included, Lollipop will probably bring the same improvements that it brought on the Galaxy S5, maybe with a few exceptions that we’re unware of for the moment.

Bottom line is the Note II with Android 5.0 Lollipop should run faster and smoother, but concerning the visuals, Samsung hasn’t done too many changes to its TouchWiz UI so don’t expect too many improvements in that department.
