14 DAY TRIAL // Samsung has been long rumored to plan on bringing the Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system to various Galaxy smartphones out there, and an official confirmation on the matter has emerged today.
To be more precise, the company has published a formal announcement on its plans for the release of said OS upgrade for various handsets in the popular Galaxy series in the United States, while also offering info on what the update will provide users with.
According to the company, the new upgrade will enrich the Galaxy experience of its users and will provide them with various innovative, easy to use features.
Samsung phones available in the United States that will receive the update include the latest additions to the company’s lineup, such as the Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy S4, along with other handsets as well.
In fact, the vendor confirmed that this upgrade would land on Galaxy Note II, Galaxy S 4 mini, Galaxy S 4 Active, Galaxy S 4 zoom, Galaxy S III, Galaxy S III mini, Galaxy Mega, and Galaxy Light smartphones in the not too distant future.
In addition to improving the overall user experience of Samsung’s smartphones, the Android 4.4.2 update will also offer a more intuitive interface, along with better messaging capabilities and a series of updated applications.
Among the apps that will receive a refresh in this release, we can count:
- Location Menu: An integrated location menu enables users to easily activate GPS, Wi-Fi and mobile networks, while simultaneously checking the battery usage of apps running location service capabilities.
- Enhanced Messaging: Enables users to choose between Messages or Hangouts as their preferred default messaging application, and select from a larger assortment of updated Emoji icons.
- Upgraded Google Mobile Service (GMS) apps: Users can automatically back up photos and video and can open, view, rename and share Google Docs and files.
The one thing that Samsung wasn’t specific about was related to the availability of the update. However, it did say that Android 4.4.2 KitKat would be released dependent on carrier and product, and that the first batch of releases would go live as soon as today.
