OLED TVs are still a rarity, although a rapidly approaching one, and Samsung just happens to be at the center of the maelstrom.

OLED has been used extensively in small gadgets, since it is easy to make in small sizes and the alternative display technologies aren't as thin or otherwise good for such items.

In larger form factors, however, pricing goes up considerably, which is why TVs made from OLED haven't been launched in great numbers.

Samsung will add one more though, in June. Measuring 55 inches in diagonal, it will be called ES9500 and will employ white OLEDs (WOLED) overlaid by red, green, and blue filters, plus a fourth, filter-free white OLED subpixel.

After the TV starts shipping in South Korea, it will reach Taiwan in the third quarter of 2013, and the rest of the world afterwards.
