It will take three or four years before the tech becomes common

With all the fuss that Samsung, LG, Panasonic and every other display maker have kicked up over OLED technology, you wouldn't expect Samsung to up and say that OLED won't become a big seller any time soon, but it happened.

Samsung, despite being one of the biggest promoters of the technology, believes that it will take three or four more years before OLED even comes close to the level of ubiquity exhibited by LCD today.

The statement is attributed to Samsung Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business, HS Kim, by USA Today.

Simply put, OLED TVs are far too expensive, with prices of $9,000 / €9,000 and up.

"Not many consumers tried to purchase OLED TVs at that price," said Kim. "Price was our greatest barrier. So our attempt to expand the market didn't really go well.”
