Although 3D enabled HDTV's have been around for a while now, the technology wasn't able to spark the high consumer interest that the industry has hoped for, so 3DTV makers everywhere are now forced to find new ways of promoting their products and one of the most interesting approaches belongs to Samsung that has decided to bundle all its 3D-enabled HDTVs with two pair of active shutter glasses.

The promotion is available at no extra cost with the purchase of any Samsung 3D LED TV or 3D plasma TV.

In addition, customers who purchase the D7000 and above 3D LED TVs or the D6500 and above 3D plasma TVs will receive Samsung’s 3D Starter Kit.

Apart from the two pair of active shutter glasses, the kit also includes the complete Shrek collection on 3D Blu-ray and a voucher for Megamind 3D on Blu-ray.

“We are excited to make it even more affordable for the entire family to enjoy Samsung’s lifelike 3D experience,” said John Revie, senior vice president of Home Entertainment, Samsung Electronics America, Inc.

“Reaching new audiences with the wonder of Samsung’s Full HD 3D is key to driving continued adoption of 3D in the home,” concluded the Samsung official.

Together with this promotional offer, Samsung has also announced that beginning May 1st, the company's 2011 3D active glasses, part number SSG-3100GB, will be available at retail for under $50 (right now these sell for $129.99).

The glasses are powered by a replaceable CR2025 3v Lithium battery and Samsung states this allows up to 70 hours of continuous viewing.

Prices of Samsung 3D-enabled LED HDTVs start at $1,599.99, with the 46-inch 6400-series model, and go all the way up to $5,999.99. Opting for a plasma HDTV drops the starting price to $999.99, for the 490-series 51-inch model.
