Apart from being a top smartphone/tablet manufacturer, Samsung is also in the business of making cameras. The Korean tech giant is slowly trying to make a name for itself in the industry and its products are actually pretty nifty.

Well, today good old Sammy has taken the opportunity to show us the upgrade of its mirrorless NX300 model, by bringing onboard some specs the NX1 model enjoyed.

Samsung's new NX500 can shoot 4K

Say hello to the mid-range NX500 model which arrives with a 28MP back-side illuminated APS-C sensor and a DRIMeV processor nestled on the inside which allows users to record 4K footage (as seen at DP Review).

The system on board is said to be capable of providing advanced noise reduction and image quality. ISO range sits somewhere between 100 and 51,200 while shutter speed reaches up to 1/6,000 of a second.

Sammy’s new camera enjoys continuous shooting mode of 9fps and also has a hybrid AF system. The Samsung Auto Shot function is offered to help photographers detect/predict when the time is right to take the perfect image.

Samsung is not forgetting about your selfie-taking passion

The camera has a 3-inch FGVA Super AMOLED touchscreen residing on the back, which will surely come in handy while taking selfies and such. The camera bundles everything from Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and NFC.

Now, in the video department, the NX5000 can shoot MP4 H.265 footage at 4,096 x 2,160 pixel resolution at 24fps, or at 3,840 x 2,160 res at 30 fps. There’s also a bunch of options for capturing video in lower res.

Samsung throws in the Interval Capture mode that can be turned into an Ultra HD-resolution time lapse video right there on the camera, without having to transfer the actual content on a computer for editing.

Thanks to the built-in HEVC Codec (said to be the most advanced compression technology available), the camera can efficiently store clips by compressing video to half the size and the bit rate of H.264 footage, without the output being compromised in any way.

Samsung will be making the camera available in black, white and brown coloring options starting mid-March 2015. You’ll need to dispense of $799 / €698 to be able to pick one of these models up.
