MetroPCS, one of US' regional mobile carriers, is bringing two new Samsung mobile phones to work on its AWS network. Also released via Cricket Communications, another regional American operator, Samsung MyShot and Samsung Spex are two entry-level handsets that look pretty good and are targeted to consumers who want simple-to-use devices.

Samsung MyShot (also known as Samsung SCH-r430) is a clamshell that comes in a black/silver case and packs features like an 1.3 Megapixel photo camera, CSTN internal display with 262k colors and 128 x 160 pixels, CSTN external display with 65k colors and 96 x 96 pixels, Bluetooth, speakerphone, advanced voice recognition, downloadable content (games, wallpapers and ringtones), handsfree and so on. When closed, the handset measures 3.64 x 1.87 x 0.77 inches.

Samsung Spex (or Samsung SCH-r210) is a candybar, hence it comes in a pretty classic form-factor. The device measures 4.07 x 1.77 x 0.59 inches and offers a square 128 x 128 pixels CSTN display with support for 65k colors, a user friendly interface, Bluetooth, speakerphone and access to downloadable graphics and ringtones.

Bill Ogle, Chief Marketing Officer of Samsung Telecommunications America, said about the company's deal with MetroPCS: "We are excited to collaborate with MetroPCS and enter the AWS market with handsets that provide consumers with mobile broadband access on phones that have style and are easy to use."

Samsung MyShot and Samsung Spex are the first handsets from MetroPCS capable of operating on the 1.7 / 2.1 GHz CDMA AWS spectrum. The phones should be available starting this month, for prices that have not been revealed yet. However, expect to pay no more than $150 for any of them, since they come for less than this amount of money via Cricket.
