Samsung might not launch its upcoming Galaxy S5 flagship smartphone with a metal-alloy chassis next year, despite the fact that previous reports on the matter suggested that this might indeed happen.

Apparently, Samsung has chosen Catcher Technology, Ju Teng International, and BYD as suppliers of cases for the upcoming smartphone, which might go official at the end of February next year, a recent article on DigiTimes reads.

A report allegedly coming from Taiwan-based chassis makers suggests that Galaxy S5 won’t feature a metallic body, as none of the aforementioned companies has started mass production of such products for Samsung.

Furthermore, the same report suggests that the South Korean mobile phone maker hasn’t made up its mind on whether to transition to metal for its upcoming devices or not.

In fact, the news site suggests that the handset vendor did very well so far on the smartphone market even without switching to a metal-alloy-based chassis model, and that it could continue on the same path.

Moving away from the plastic bodies of its handsets would bring along increased production costs to Samsung. This could result either in higher smartphone prices or in lower revenue for the company.

However, rumor has it that Samsung might also be considering the adoption of other materials for future smartphone cases, including compounds such as fiberglass/plastic or carbon fiber/plastic. The move would allow the company to lower production costs for its smartphones.

None of the above has been officially confirmed as of now, and it remains to be seen whether the report will prove true or not.

Previously, Galaxy S5 was said to arrive on the market in two versions, including one with a metallic case and another with a plastic body, most probably similar to the one of this year's Galaxy S4, which can be seen pictured above.

Provided that the upcoming flagship smartphone indeed becomes official in February, more details on it should emerge in the near future, so stay tuned to learn the news.
