Apple will reportedly buy mobile RAM from Samsung to use it for iPhone 6

Apple sued and won almost all their legal battles with Samsung over intellectual property. The judges all over the world have decided that Samsung did, in fact, infringe on Apple's patents and copied the iPhone 3G. The court even decided in Apple's favor when it comes to money, so Samsung had to pay a large amount for what they have stolen over the years.

In the past few months, Apple has changed its policy on that and they have agreed to stop the court battles with Samsung everywhere except the United States. Because of all the legal issues, Apple has decided a while back not to buy anything from Samsung. However, that decision may have been overturn because of poor relations with other big parts manufacturers from the supply chain.

Digitimes is reporting that Samsung Electronics was included again into the supplier list by Apple. The Cupertino tech giant is getting ready to launch two new devices and the huge quantity needed for the release date may have had something to do with their decision.

Samsung Electronics will reportedly provide the RAM chips for Apple's next-generation iPhone 6 and iPhone 6L. If the rumors are true, this would be the first time Apple is going back to using Samsung parts since 2013. Before that date, Samsung Electronics was providing key components for iOS devices. Among others, Apple was buying mobile RAM, NAND flash chips and even batteries.

As expected, everything was done under strict supervision from Apple so no technical drawings or parts will get into the hands of the mobile division from Samsung.

Since 2013, Apple purchased mobile RAM only from SK Hynix and Elpida Memory (Micron Technology) for iPhone 5, 5s and 5c. With the launch of iPhone 6, Apple has asked the two companies to provide larger quantities of chips, but they have scaled back their production. The cited source believes the suppliers have done that only because Apple was paying less than others, even though the guys from Cupertino were buying considerably larger quantities.

Apple wants to make sure they will not be left behind schedule with the iPhone 6, therefore they have included Samsung on the suppliers list, but only for mobile RAM.

Apple is getting ready to announce their next-generation iPhone 6 and iPhone 6L as soon as September 9, with a release probably scheduled a week later. The new iPhones will most probably have a 4.7 and 5.5-inch diagonal display and will be powered by the next-generation A8 System-on-a-Chip (SoC) processor and the M8 motion co-processor.
