Wireless operator AT&T announced recently the availability of Samsung SGH-a257 Magnet, an affordable messaging handset that was unveiled back in March, and which offers mobile phone users one of the most enhanced experiences when sending text messages, instant messages or e-mails while using its full-QWERTY keyboard.

The Samsung SGH-a257 Magnet comes to the carrier's offering with a 2.2-inch display that can provide a 176 x 220 pixel resolution as well as support for 64K colors, while also including a VGA camera, Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity, speakerphone, 64 MB ROM and 16MB RAM.

Users will be able to enjoy the possibility of staying in contact with their friends either through the Instant Messaging (IM) capabilities of the phone, including support for AOL, Windows Live and Yahoo! Messenger, or via mobile email (AOL, Yahoo, Windows Live). In addition, a Web browser and MEdia Net allow for fast access to online content.

Other features that the Samsung Magnet brings to AT&T's users include MMS capabilities, a wide range of productivity capabilities, including Calendar, Alarm clock, Call Waiting, Caller ID, Personal Organizer, support for Conference calling, as well as support for a lot of games for entertainment purposes.

The handset is a world phone, and it comes with support for GSM/GPRS (850/900/1800/1900 MHz) and EDGE high-speed data networks, while including an 800 mAH battery that can offer up to 5 hours of talk time or up to 10 days of standby time. The Samsung Magnet measures 4.29 x 2.32 x 0.47 inches and weighs 3.09 ounces. AT&T sells it for $19.99 upon the signing of a 2-year contract agreement and after a $30.00 mail-in rebate, while the free-of-contract price of the phone is $199.99.
