Name frenzy for the M540

At first sight, the new messaging device distributed by Sprint looks as if it was built only for picture messaging, while everything else was pretty much neglected; actually, that's not too far from the truth. Besides the fact that everybody seems to call it as they please, as if it was created by a ghost company, the M540 Rant, as Sprint calls it, does not have any performance except for picture messaging, bringing ordinary and quite old capabilities.

It looks like a slightly “chubby” phone although its measures are 114 x 53x 18mm and weighs only 130g, which actually respect the tasks it's supposed to excel at and it's also fairly easy to use because of the sliding keyboard with four full rows of keys.

This QWERTY keyboard Samsung uses the standard microUSB connector for power and the 2.5mm headphone socket instead of the 3.5mm. It features 262k color TFT display which would have surely impressed a couple of years ago, but definitely not so much now. The camera is a 2 megapixel one, again no pleasant surprise here and it is also equipped with GPS.

Now, moving on to the pleasant experience this phone offers, the Sprint One Click standby screen really wows, allowing you to organize your data very well and it also guides you and your information to the place it has to go. It is fully functional with the keyboard slid and it bears support for POP3 email.

The performance of the antenna is not extraordinary but will not leave you confused during a deep conversation. It’s compatible with Sprint's Music Store and comes equipped with a 256MB microSD card for music and photos.

It is not necessarily a phone that remains in your memory once you've seen it but if you buy it for the right reasons, you would be pleased.
