US-based carrier Sprint has just announced the debut of sales for the entry-level Samsung M360 clamshell mobile phone. Targeting customers that are looking for a basic phone, the M360 handset is an interesting option for Sprint's customers that cannot afford or don’t want to spend more on expensive devices.

Following the successful launch of its M350 (Seek) predecessor, the M360 comes with a 1.3 megapixel camera, Bluetooth connectivity with A2DP support, threaded text messaging, as well as a web browser.

The phone has a small screen, so using the included browser won’t give the best experience out there, but at least it won’t be slow as well, since the device is fully compatible with 3G speeds where available.

Multimedia enthusiasts can use their own earphones for listening to music, thanks to the 3.5mm audio jack port included.

The handset is compatible with Sprint's Mobile Sync tool for contacts and group management. Users will be able to synchronize their address book between phone and PC, make secure contact backups and automatically transfer their contacts when they change to a new phone.

The M360 by Samsung seems to be designed for practical customers “or their impractical kids” who want a phone that is cheap and easy to use.

The Parental Control feature enables users to make phone adjustments such as restricting incoming and/or outgoing direct dial calls as well as limiting access to services such a Sprint Vision and/or Sprint PCS Ready Link.

Another interesting feature available for M360 users is the Sprint Family Locator, which can be used to locate family members anytime, anywhere from the phone or the Web. This comes in handy when customers wish to locate their kids.

Other key features of the clamshell include: 64MB of RAM, 128MB of ROM, 320x240 pixel main display, as well as a 128x128 pixel external display.

The phone embeds a 1,000mAh Li-Ion battery which was rated by the manufacturer for up to 6.2 hours of talk time.

The Samsung M360 is free from Sprint after $159 of instant savings and a $50 web special, but requires a new 2-year contract.
