South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics might be the leading smartphone maker in the world, but it does not enjoy similar popularity among users in Japan.

In fact, sales of Samsung handsets in the country are said to have dived in the third quarter of the year to only about half when compared to the fourth quarter of the last year.

To be more precise, info coming from KoreaHerald claims that the company sold only around one million smartphones in Japan in the July – September period, although it reached a level of 1.9 million units in Q4 2012.

The news site also notes that the company managed to sell only 1.4 million smartphones in Japan in the first quarter of 2013, and that it moved 1.3 million in Q2.

At the moment, the South Korean giant enjoys only a 9.9 percent market share in the country, and chances are that it will lose some more ground moving forth.
