Semiconductor and electronics giant, Korean company Samsung has just announced its new SSD series that seem to be targeting mainly server and professional workstation usage type. The new drives are powered by Samsung’s new MDX controller and come with impressive IOPS ratings.

There will be two model types initially available at launch, the “840 PRO” line and the plain 840 line.

Samsung touts a top performance of 100,000 IOPS when reading and a high 90,000 IOPS when writing data, but the reality is that there is not much more info available on the new drives.

The company has not yet released any other technical info on the devices, although it does mention in the press release that “over 70 tech media and power bloggers” have attended the Samsung SSD Global Summit held at the Shilla hotel in Seoul, Korea.

Therefore, we can expect reviews to pop up anytime soon.
