Video telephony is one of the most important achievements of modern technology, and has taken communications to a whole different level, by allowing people to actually see each other's faces, even if they're set apart by huge distances. And one of the latest and most interesting products developed by the Korean company together with the Israeli Radvision company is the Syncon LCD video telephony terminal, an unified solution that will surely come in handy, especially for teleconferences.

This very interesting device developed by Samsung is a unified, light desktop client terminal, which serves as a PC LCD monitor and multimedia communications terminal. The Syncon LCD sports a 22-inch display, running at 4-CIF video resolution, and can be described as an ideal desktop convergence device, since it merges a PC, LCD monitor, video terminal, IP Phone and Instant Messaging into a single, fully functional integrated device.

Another important element worth mentioning about the Syncon is that it incorporates the Scopia Multipoint Conferencing Unit (MCU) developed by Radvision, thus allowing the users to establish multi-party conferencing. Moreover, the range of conferencing possibilities is extremely wide, since, through the Scopia platform, Syncon is able to communicate with standard video conference endpoints, including H.323, SIP, ISDN, and WCDMA 3G video telephony.

According to the company's joint statement, the device will be available in the second half of 2007 for a yet undisclosed price, but it will surely beat other solutions from the same family, for one simple reason. By using one monitor instead of two (as in the case of other comparable solutions), the price will be substantially lower, not to mention the fact that the users' desktop will offer a lot more space than previously possible.
