The 55-inch and 65-inch are the only ones out for now

Samsung's ultra high definition television sets have been shipping in certain parts of the world for some time, but only now are they reaching the countries of Europe, or at least Central Europe.

Just yesterday (April 23, 2014), the company held a product release event in good old Bucharest, and since we were near, we decided to drop by for a visit.

Only the 65-inch and 55-inch television sets were released, even though there is a third model in the series, measuring 78 inches in diagonal.

That one will only come out in the second half of 2014 though, probably in the late third or early fourth quarter.

In related news, Samsung said it carried out a survey in which 81% of those that were asked about their choice preferred the curved display to the flat-panel one.

We'll take it with a grain of salt, since the field of view of such screens is smaller (after all, the screen is concave, not convex).

Samsung also mentioned the Auto Depth Enhancer technology, an algorithm which automatically adjusts contrast and supposedly provides a 3D effect without glasses. It's not actual 3D support though.

Sadly, the Samsung Curved UHD TVs are pretty expensive, with the 55-inch one costing $3,500 / €3,500 all on its own. The 65-inch one is close to $4,400 / €4400.
