Buyers are still attracted to tablets, so the notebook business is trying to keep afloat

Today we bring more bad news for the notebook industry. New information seems to indicate that laptop component orders didn't live up to the original forecast and performed lower than expected.

According to sources familiar with the matter from the upstream supply chain reported by DigiTimes, Samsung’s component orders from June throughout October 2013 made up only 40% of the previously expected numbers.

Apple iMac shipments contributed to the decline for the period, as the Cupertino tech giant is said to have shipped 50% less items, when compared to the same period last year.

Taiwan-based ODMs also experienced problems in the month of October. For example, Wistron saw its revenues drop by as much as 20% compared to September. The difficulties are attributed to Lenovo, who started in-house production and discarded some of the services provided by Wistron.

Wistron experienced a drop of 17.73% in October on-year, with tablets being the only product that actually sold. Compal Electronics, on the other hand, got a 3.91% boost in October year-over-year, but the increase was possible thanks to tablets, of course.
