Leading mobile phone provider Samsung Mobile (Samsung Telecommunications America) announced recently the launch of a new ad campaign for one of its most popular handsets on the United States market, the Samsung Omnia II. According to the company, the campaign, which features celebrity athlete Lamar Odom, started on Thursday, March 18.

At the same time, the company notes that the campaign is set to be aired during the College Basketball Championships via local CBS television stations and websites. In the commercial and in the online video and rich media digital advertising, Odom will showcase the capabilities of the mobile phone, including its bright screen and fast speeds, as well as the Swype technology it comes bundled with.

Samsung Mobile found Lamar Odom a natural fit for our ad featuring the premium capabilities of the Samsung Omnia II with Swype technology for faster texting. Lamar is a remarkable athlete who is on the rise, just like the Samsung Mobile brand,” said Paul Golden, chief marketing officer, Samsung Mobile. “The College Basketball Championships attract a diverse audience and one which we think will appreciate all of the smartphone features the Omnia II has to offer.”

As most of you might already know, the Samsung Omnia II is available for purchase in the United States exclusively via Verizon Wireless. The handset runs under Microsoft's Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system, boasts a 3.7-inch widescreen AMOLED (Wide Video Graphics Array Active-Matrix Organic Light-Emitting Diode) touchscreen of WVGA resolution, and can offer one of the brightest and clearest displays in the US market.

Moreover, the handset comes with great email capabilities so that users can stay connected with their corporate and personal e-mail accounts on the go, and also sports a virtual QWERTY keyboard with Swype technology to enable users text faster and easier. The campaign has been planned and negotiated by media agency network Starcom MediaVest Group and CBS.
