Fido-branded

If the black version of Samsung Jack SGH-i616 available from Rogers doesn't look good enough for you, the largest Canadian mobile carrier has recently released a new Samsung Jack smartphone. Called Samsung Jack Merlot, the handset in question obviously comes dressed in a merlot color.

The weird part of this piece of news is that, although Samsung Jack Merlot can be bought from Rogers' website, it has Fido's logo on it. Of course, the latter is the former's subsidiary, but until now the phones sold by Fido stayed on Fido's website, while the ones sold by Rogers stayed on Rogers' website.

Maybe the Merlot Jack is planned to be offered by both Canadian operators, and Rogers has just mixed up its pictures, showing the Fido version instead of its own. In any case, the new Samsung can be bought as of now, for 24.99 USD, with a Rogers contract agreement for three years – the same price the black Samsung Jack can be acquired for.

As always with new color versions, the Merlot Jack doesn't bring extra features when compared to the old one, save for Windows Mobile 6.1, but the standard Samsung Jack can now be upgraded to Microsoft's latest mobile OS too, so there's actually no difference between the two smartphones.

But the new Samsung Jack still has lots of chances to attract users, since its merlot color is surely one that you don't get to see in too many handsets.

Moreover, its features are not bad at all, including: quad-band GSM and tri-band HSDPA connectivity, a full QWERTY keyboard, built-in GPS, a 2.4 inch TFT display with 240 x 320 pixels, full HTML browser, email and Instant Messaging, document reader, Mobile TV receiver, Music and Video players, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, a 2 Megapixel camera, USB 2.0 and microSD card support (up to 4GB).
