Samsung’s product quality and services earned it the #3 spot

Samsung and Apple are fighting it to the death when it comes to smartphone market supremacy around the world, trying to maintain control over their shares and expand further at the same time.

But even if Samsung is not going through one of its rosiest of phases, a new report coming out of Harris Poll shows that, at least in terms of providing satisfactory products, the Korean tech giant can rest assured it is doing a good job.

Earlier this month, Strategy Analytics released some numbers which showed that Apple was the top mobile phone maker in the US for the first time ever last quarter.

Apple launched the iPhone 5s last September, which sold in an estimated 17.7 million units in the US during the Q4 of the market. This translates into 34% marketshare.

On the other hand, Samsung was dethroned to the number two position with only 32% marketshare (or 16.8 million phones shipped). The difference isn’t that big but could mark the beginning of the end for the Korean tech giant.

Samsung has a better reputation than Apple in the US

Well, the new report coming out of Harris Poll paints a slightly different picture. According to them, Samsung has been gaining some grounds ever since 2010, and for the first time ever, it has overtaken Apple in terms of customer popularity.

Sammy now rests at a comfortable #3 position while Apple has stumbled back and has fallen all the way to the #9 spot.

In the Harris Poll studies, consumers are asked to rate perceptions across 20 attributes, classified into six dimensions of corporate reputation, including:

- Social Responsibility

- Emotional Appeal

- Productivity & Service

- Workplace Environment

- Financial Performance

- Vision & Leadership

It appears Samsung’s rise to #3 spot in the top is owed to the company’s “product quality and services.” Although if you put things into perspective, it’s pretty puzzling to see that a company apparently more popular than Apple holds a smaller grasp of the US marketshare.

Another interesting fact is that Harris Poll ranks Amazon as the second most popular company in the US. Even if the company’s first smartphone hasn't been received all that well, the retail giant has plenty of products to attract users with.
