14 DAY TRIAL // South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung is working on a new processor for the smartphone market, and info on it has already emerged on Samsung’s Kernel Git page.
The upcoming SoC sports the name of Exynos 5440, and is identified as SSDK5440. Based on ARM’s Cortex-A15, it seems the new processor will be a quad-core.
Unfortunately, there are no specific details available on the clock speed of the new CPU, nor on other features it will arrive on shelves with.
According to SammyHub, however, the new processor will hit the market with support for ARM’s big.LITTLE processing technology.
Previously, the South Korean handset vendor has been rumored to plan the unveiling of an 8-core processor for smartphones that would feature the same big.LITTLE concept, and which will include two quad-core CPUs (a 1.8GHz ARM Cortex-A15 and a 1.2GHz Cortex-A7 one).
