On Wednesday, South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics announced officially that a new flavor of its Galaxy Tab Android-based tablet PC would arrive on shelves in the United States in the first quarter of the ongoing year, namely the WiFi-only Samsung Galaxy Tab.

Rumored for a Q1 launch for quite some time now, the new device is now official, with similar specifications as the already available Galaxy Tab model, minus the 3G connectivity options, of course.

The tablet PC comes to the market with Google's Android 2.2 Froyo operating system, while sporting a 7-inch TFT display with 1024 x 600 WSVGA resolution, and a 1GHz Hummingbird application processor inside.

The Galaxy Tab also includes 16GB of internal memory, complemented by a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space.

The specs list of this device also includes support for Adobe Flash Player 10.1, so that users would enjoy a great web browsing experience when accessing sites packed with Flash-based applications and content.

Galaxy Tab’s Flash content support ranges from games, animations and rich Internet applications (RIAs), to data presentations and visualizations, e-commerce, video, music and more.

The Android device comes with a rear-facing 3 megapixel photo snapper on the back, as well as with a front-facing 1.3 megapixel camera, enabling users to video chat.

The device was already sold in over 1.5 million units. “We’re very excited that the Galaxy Tab recently passed the 1.5 million global shipments milestone,” Omar Khan, chief strategy officer for Samsung Mobile, stated.

The features list of this tablet includes Google Maps with Navigation (Beta), access to the Android Market, Samsung’s Social Hub application (with support for e-mail, instant messaging, social network updates or SMS messages), or Google Calendar.

Other features of the device would include: - Daily Briefing: Offers instant access to weather, news, stocks, and schedules. - Impressive Expandable Memory: Galaxy Tab can add 32 GB of external memory to store and manage your favorite video content and pictures. - AllShare DLNA Technology: Take video or pictures shot with Galaxy Tab and send the original content wirelessly to other DLNA-enabled devices (HDTVs, laptops, PC monitors, etc.) - Document Viewer & Editor: Open and make changes to any Word, Excel, Powerpoint or PDF document - 4,000 mAh Battery: Super-sized battery provides ample power to watch movies, share content and surf the Web
