Galaxy Grand is the latest addition to Samsung’s popular Galaxy lineup, made official today by the South Korean mobile phone maker with a 5-inch touchscreen display.

The new handset is expected to prove a great option for all users who want a handset that can provide them with a nice range of features for their busy lifestyles, but it won’t hit the market as a high-end device.

The 5-inch LCD screen, which is the third largest that Samsung has packed one of its smartphones with, can deliver only a WVGA (800 x 480 pixels) resolution, and will be no match for the full HD screen that competitors included in their flagships.

Furthermore, the new Samsung Galaxy Grand will arrive on shelves with a dual-core 1.2GHz processor inside, with support for multitasking and fast web browsing and capable of supporting some of the most demanding applications and games.

Running under Google’s Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean operating system, the new device is said to be capable of a high-end viewing experience, while also providing users with capabilities they like the most in their smartphones: messaging, multimedia and web navigation.

“Even with the large screen, the phone is still slim, ergonomic and comfortable to hold. You can also enjoy true multitasking running multiple apps simultaneously and without switching screens using Multi Window feature,” Samsung announced.

The phone’s specs list also includes 1GB of RAM, along with 8GB of internal memory, and a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 64GB of internal memory.

At the same time, it will land on shelves with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, GPS receiver, and support for HSPA+ networks. Galaxy Grand is powered by a 2100mAh battery.

On the back, the new device sports an 8-megapixel photo snapper with support for full HD video recording, complemented by a 2MP camera on the front for making video calls.

Samsung has also loaded the new device with software such as the TouchWiz UI, S Voice, Multi-Window, AllShare Play, Direct Call, Smart Alert, Popup Play and various Hubs.

The company also confirmed that it would launch the new mobile phone in single (I9080) and dual-SIM variants (I9082), but did not offer specific details on its availability or pricing.
