Samsung Electronics has just announced the upcoming availability of a new application processor in its Exynos family of products, namely the Exynos 4212 dual core ARM Cortex-A9 chip.

The new CPU has been designed using the company's advanced 32nm High-K Metal Gate (HKMG) low-power process, and should be able to provide the best-in-class performance levels, Samsung notes.

The new dual-core Exynos 4212 is meant to fit mobile devices such as smartphones and tablet PCs, and can deliver a high-quality user experience. The chip was unveiled at the eighth annual Samsung Mobile Solutions Forum held at the Westin Taipei.

Samsung explains that the new Exynos 4212 has been designed using the 32nm low-power HKMG manufacturing process, and that it takes advantage of the company's sub-micron expertise in high-performance/low-power technology.

Packing dual Cortex-A9 cores, the new application processor is capable of delivering up to 25 percent more processing power, as well as up to 50 percent higher 3D graphics performance courtesy of its enhanced graphics processing unit (GPU).

Samsung also explains that the new chip comes with a rich portfolio of advanced codec accelerators, which offer advanced support for still photos, video recording and playback at full HD resolution, along with on-chip HDMI 1.4 interface.

“As innovative technologies appear on the mobile landscape, the market continues to embrace further developments and performance acceleration in mobile computing,” said Seh-Woong Jeong, executive vice president of System LSI sales & marketing, Device Solutions, Samsung Electronics.

Samsung is addressing this trend with its powerful low-power Exynos family of processors based on its proven design technology and cutting-edge process technology for performance and power improvements at the system level.”

The new Samsung Exynos 4212 application processor is expected to become available on the market starting with the fourth quarter of the ongoing year, the company announced. More info on the Exynos family of CPUs can be found on Samsung's dedicated website, here.
