Launched in July 2010, the Samsung Intercept Android-based slider has just been confirmed as part of the list of smartphones fortunate enough to get the Android 2.2 Froyo upgrade. Also known as Samsung M910, the device is still available for purchase from Sprint and Virgin Mobile, for $249.99.

After receiving a considerable amount of feedback from customers who were asking for a Froyo upgrade for the Intercept, Virgin Mobile decided to make it official.

In this regard, one of the carrier's officials announced via Twitter that Samsung Intercept will indeed be getting the long-awaited Froyo update:

We know you have been asking so here's the latest...VM will get the update to Android Froyo 2.2 for the Intercept sometime this spring!” Even though the statement doesn't say “this week” or “this month,” knowing that the Intercept will be among the several Android-powered smarthones to get this upgrade should be enough for users.

Samsung Intercept is a mid-tier Android smartphone, as it is powered by an 800 MHz processor and runs on the Android 2.1 Eclair platform.

The device is fully compatible with Sprint's CDMA network and offers data transfer speeds of up to 153.2 Kbps. Other connectivity features include: Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g, GPS with A-GPS support, microUSB 2.0 and Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP support.

In addition to its full slide-out QWERTY keyboard, the smartphone comes with a 3.2-inch TFT touchscreen with 65K colors support and 240 x 400 pixels resolution, as well as microSD card for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

The phone sports a 3.2-megapixel camera with autofocus, geo-tagging and video recording capabilities.

Samsung Intercept is powered by a standard Li-Ion 1500 mAh which is rated by the carrier for up to 254 hours of standby time or up to 6 hours 40 minutes of talk time.
