A couple of months have passed since Virgin Mobile teased its customers who own a Samsung Intercept smartphone with the long-awaited Android 2.2 Froyo software update.

Further information regarding the firmware upgrade emerged back in February via Twitter. Following its initial statement, the carrier said that the update to Android 2.2 Froyo will be available around March 25.

Although the March 25th deadline is long overdue, Samsung Intercept owners are still stuck on Android 2.1 Eclair

However, in light of the new information received by a certain number of Intercept users, it appears that Virgin Mobile will release the update on April 11th.

The following text message is being sent to Virgin Mobile customers that use the Samsung Intercept:

The Froyo Update for the Virgin Mobile Samsung Intercept is finally coming out on Monday the 11th! VMFreeMsg: Starting 4/11/11, you will be notified of a phone software upgrade available for your Intercept. Click http://msg4u.us/isr for more information.”

Additional information, as well as the confirmation of the Froyo update, can be found by following the link in the message.

The carrier mentions that the software update will be delivered OTA (over-the-air), so users should check their Intercept smartphones for a notification that will prompt them to make the upgrade to Android 2.2.

The update process is said to last between 5 and 10 minutes, so users are recommended to charge their phone prior to accepting the software update or connect it to an AC.

Some of the Froyo enhancements detailed by Virgin Mobile include, but are not limited to:

- Exchange Active Sync updates; - Ability to install applications to external memory card; - Improved Bluetooth device support; - Bluetooth Voice dialing; - Improved operating system performance; - Dedicated phone, application and browser icons on every home screen.

We will be updating the information as soon as we receive word that the carrier has started to roll-out the software upgrade.
