Since cable operators and the like aren't really as common in Africa as in the US or Europe, satellite TVs have a chance to flourish quite well there.

With that in mind, Samsung has decided to equip its LED TVs in the region with satellite receivers for free.

To that end, it entered a collaboration with SES, a major satellite operator that broadcasts 60 free-to-air channels in over 40 African countries.

“The Samsung LED TV Free Satellite is our contribution to the continent’s efforts to ’go digital’, providing African consumers with greater choice and broadcasters with the opportunity to grow the region’s media industry,” said Christoph Limmer, SES’s senior director of marketing development and marketing in Africa.

The Samsung LED TV Free Satellite will be launched in Nigeria, Ghana, Cote D’Ivoire, Senegal, Democratic Republic of Congo and Cameroon in August 2012.
