Leap's subsidiary, Cricket Communications and Samsung Mobile have just announced the launch of the Samsung Indulge (SCH-r915) on the carrier's airwaves

Cricket customer should rejoice as the Indulge is the first in a long line (hopefully) of Android devices manufactured by Samsung and offered by carrier.

While this is the first Samsung smartphone launched by Cricket to run on Android platform, the carrier has three more Android devices in its lineup.

Samsung Indulge made its first appearance during the 2011 CTIA Wireless, along with another Android smartphone that has recently made its way onto Cricket's offerings, the Huawei Ascend 2.

It looks like the Indulge was launched right on time, as the carrier suggested at the beginning of the year that both Ascend 2 and Indulge will be available in Q2 2011.

The Indulge is mid-budget Android smartphone, which is also carried by MetroPCS, but under a different moniker, the Galaxy Indulge.

Cricket customers have really taken to smartphones and we are evolving our portfolio to meet their needs by offering smartphone features at varying price points,” said Matt Stoiber, vice president and general manager devices for Cricket.

The handset comes with a 3.5-inch multi-touch display and a slide-out QWERTY keyboard.

In addition, the Indulge is powered by a 1GHz processor and Android 2.2 with Samsung TouchWiz 3.0.

It sports an average 3-megapixel camera with video recording capabilities, music player, microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB), stereo Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity.

The Indulge is powered by a 1500mAh battery that should provide up to 300 hours of standby time or up to 3 hours of talk time.

Our customers love to text and surf the web, especially using social media applications and want an Android experience with a touchscreen and a QWERTY keyboard. And the Indulge delivers with a blazing fast 1GHz processor, vivid display and a slide-out keyboard,” added Stoiber.

The Indulge features all of the popular Android apps like Gmail, YouTube and Google Search, plus Android Market which now features more than 200,000 applications and games.
