South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung might be closer than believed to releasing the Android 2.2 operating system update for the Galaxy S devices it has on sale in the United States, though not all of them might receive this treatment at the same time.

The handset vendor's website listed some of the Galaxy S devices available in the US, including the Epic 4G, Vibrant, and Fascinate (via Android Police), with Google's Android 2.2 OS on board, although users only enjoy Android 2.1 on them.

The listings were corrected in the meantime, but the fact that Froyo was present next to these handsets' names indicates that Samsung is ramping up for launching the software update for them in the near future.

These devices were brought to the market in the United States several months ago with the Android 2.1 platform version on board, and with the promise that the new Android 2.2 Froyo OS version would be released very soon.

However, none of the said phones saw the new platform version, even if the solution was already released for Galaxy S models elsewhere.

In all fairness, the launch of this OS upgrade was delayed for the entire North American continent, as Canadian versions of the device started to receive it only recently, but no official announcement was made on when the release would actually take place.

While users were certainly hoping that Samsung and US carriers would manage to deliver the update before the year's end, the deployment appears to have been delayed to the next year.

As stated above, the fact that Samsung listed the handsets with Android 2.2 Froyo on board, even if it was only by accident, suggests that the release date might not be too far into the future either.

Hopefully, Samsung would manage to deliver the solution sooner rather than later, though will still have to wait for an official announcement on this to learn when exactly that might happen.
