Samsung, currently the second largest handset manufacturer in the world, announced the future release of two new environment-friendly mobile phones: SCH-W510 and SGH-F268, both being slider phones that look quite good.

Samsung W510 is the company's first phone that includes bio-plastic materials. More exactly, the back cover of the handset is made of plastic obtained from corn. Plus, unlike most of the phones on the market, the W510 does not contain elements like Mercury, Lead or Cadmium. The features of W510 were not unveiled yet, but we can see a photo camera with flash, a pretty wide display and mobile TV capabilities, hence it's most probably a mid-end device. The W510 will be available starting this month (June) in South Korea, for a price that has not been announced yet.

Samsung F268 comes with a special alarm that allows users to know exactly when the battery of the phone is fully charged and can be plugged out. Moreover, the phone does not contain PVC (Polyvinyl chloride) and BFSs (Brominated flame retardants).

In terms of features, the new F268 is a tri-band GSM handset with a 2.1 inch TFT display (262K colors and 240 x 320 pixels), a 2 Megapixel camera with video, Media player (supporting MP3, AAC, WMA, MPEG4 and 3GP), FM radio, Bluetooth 2.0, WAP browser, USB and microSD card support. As the W510, Samsung F268 will hit the market this month, but in China, for an unknown but probably reasonable price.

For the moment, we can't say if the new Samsung handset is going to be available in other countries besides the ones mentioned above. Anyway, it's good to see the South Korean company coming up with new eco-friendly products. It would be nice if all the important manufacturers began to include such handsets in their line-ups.
