It appears that the Gear Solo will indeed make it on the market

We talked about the Samsung Gear Solo in the past and recent information shows that the smartwatch has been trademarked by the USPTO.

Samsung’s new wearables are headed for global launch today and the Korean tech giant is hoping to incite customers across the world to get their hands on the Gear 2, Gear 2 Neo or Gear Fit.

But considering the fact that Google has just announced its own dedicated wearable OS, Android Wear, Samsung’s new offerings might already be threatened.

That’s why it makes sense that the Korean tech giant is already developing a successor smartwatch model to be released on the market, which it can use to counter offerings coming from LG and Motorola.

LG is expected to make available its first smartwatch this summer and reports coming out of Asia claim that the manufacturer is already at work producing its second smartwatch model as we speak.

A few days ago, we brought you news that the rumor mill was indicating that Samsung was working on a third smartwatch model, one that would be called Gear Solo and which would come bundled with 3G functionalities, enabling users to place phone calls.

But recent developments show that the Gear Solo is more than a possibility. As KopeanGalaxyS5 reports, the Gear Solo and Gear Now (a mystery model that we haven’t heard of before) have now been officially trademarked by the USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office).

So that means that we can expect to see two new Gear smartwatch models arrive on the market in the near future. We do know a few details about the Gear Solo and as we have told you, the wearable is expected to add phone calling capabilities from your wrist, but we don’t know if the device has been designed to be a smartphone replacement per se.

Currently, owners of the Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo have to sync the wearable with a Samsung smartphone or tablet to be able to take full advantage of the smartwatches’ capabilities.

As for the Gear Now, we have no indication what extra functionalities the smartwatch might arrive with.

The idea of smartwatches being more than smartphone-bound accessories has been flying around for some time now. Just last week, we showed you a device developed by Black Eyed Peas’ Will.i.am, which aimed to eliminate the need of a smartphone per se.

Will.i.am himself says that he has stopped carrying around his smartphone and only relies on the smartwatch. We have also talked about the Rufus Cuff, which pretty much looks like a phone strapped onto your wrist, allowing users to place phone calls.

So, do you think a 3G-enabled Gear would be more attractive than the current Gear 2 offering?
