Samsung's new smartwatch arrives in the US soon

Samsung unleashed its latest smartwatch the Gear S a few days before IFA 2014 started. But in Berlin the tech giant put the wearable on display for the first time, showing off its curved displays and unique capabilities.

What the tech giant didn’t say was when the wearable was going to be available for pickup. Now the tech giant finally sheds light on this matter, well sort of.

Samsung Gear S will be available at all major carriers in the US

The tech giant has announced the availability of its newest smartwatch only in the US. The wearable is expected to arrive on all major carriers in the country, including AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon this fall.

The exact dates aren’t known yet nor is the pricing and we’re hotly waiting to see how much Samsung asks for its latest wrist-bound gizmo.

In case you don’t remember, the Gear S is Samsung’s fifth attempt at making a smartwatch. This one is the first to come with a curved Super AMOLED display sporting a 2-inch form factor and 480 x 320 resolution.

Under the hood resides a 1GHz dual-core processor fitted with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage. The watch is IP67 rated for resistance to dust and water and supports 2G and 3G calling.

Actually, the Gear S is among the few smartwatches available on the market that can be used as a standalone device, without needing the helping hand of a companion smartphone. Basically, users can’t place phone calls right from their wrist.

The Gear S uses Samsung’s home grown Tizen operating system and not Android Wear like the previous Gear Live.

We had a chance to play with the Gear S at IFA 2014, and to our eyes it seems to be the best-looking smartwatch Samsung has produced so far.

However, the timepiece remains quite big, something that shouldn’t be a problem for gentlemen, but ladies might prefer to look into the direction of the Moto 360 instead, because of its fairer proportions.

Anyway, as far as we could see, the watch is pretty responsive and even takes advantage of a Flesky keyboard, so you can even go ahead and type out messages, provided you have the patience needed.

Samsung already developing a Gear S successor

Even if the latest Gear S is not even out and about yet, Samsung is already working on a new smartwatch. Recent rumors indicate that the Korean tech giant is in the process of developing a new intelligent timepiece with a fingerprint sensor and payment solution.
