Unveiled back in August, Samsung Galaxy Y Android smartpone has just made its debut in the UK via Vodafone.

Customers who want to try out a budget friendly Android smartphone can obtain the Galaxy Y for free from Vodafone on pay monthly plans from £10.50 ($16 or 12 EUR).

Although Galaxy Y was announced three months ago, the handset made it to the market only recently. In this regard, the device has gone live in India two days ago and is available for purchase for $145 (about 105 EUR) outright.

Even though Vodafone UK's offer for Galaxy Y seems very good, customers who prefer other carriers might want to wait for O2 UK to release the handset.

Samsung Galaxy Y already shows up on O2's “Coming Soon” webpage, but the operator has yet to announce the phone's price options and release date.

The Galaxy Y is an entry-level smartphone powered by Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread platform and is aimed at customer who are using an Android smartphone for the first time.

Even if you've never used a smartphone before, you'll find using the Samsung GALAXY Y is a breeze, whether you're calling your mum, texting a mate or updating Facebook,”explains Vodafone UK.

The smartphone is equipped with a 832 MHz processor and packs 160 MB of internal memory, as well as microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

Furthermore, Samsung Galaxy Y comes with a medium size 3.0-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen display with 262K colors support and 240 x 320 pixels resolution.

To make things more user friendly for first time Android users, the Galaxy Y is delivered with TouchWiz UI on board.

The phone's 1200 mAh Li-Ion battery should provide up to 850 hours (540 hours for 3G mode) of standby time or up to 17 hours (6 hours and 20 minutes for 3G mode) of talk time.
