Samsung's Xcover series of phones are known for their good performance under any weather or extreme work environment. Combine the extreme durability with Samsung's popular Galaxy S family of smartphones and the result is Samsung Galaxy Xcover.

The rugged smartphone adds to the Xcover series that feature two other low-end models, Samsung Xcover 271 and Samsung E2370 Xcover.

However, unlike the Xcover 271 that is certified by IP54 standard, which makes it resistant against shock, splash and dust, the Galaxy Xcover only received IP67 standard certification that makes the phone safe against dust or under one meter of water for up to 30 minutes.

Furthermore, the Galaxy Xcover has a different hardware and software configuration in comparison with the original Galaxy S smartphone.

For example, Galaxy Xcover comes with a 3.65-inch capacitive touchscreen made of scratch-proof tempered glass, while the Galaxy S features a 4-inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display.

In addition, Samsung Galaxy Xcover sports a 3.2-megapixel camera with autofocuse and LED flash, which can double as a flash light when needed.

Equipped with an 800MHz processor, Galaxy Xcover packs 150 MB of internal memory, 512MB of RAM, as well as microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

The phone is quad-band GSM and dual-band UMTS / HSDPA and comes with a secondary VGA front facing camera for video calls.

Other interesting features of the smartphone include: WLAN 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0 connectivity, as well as built-in GPS receiver.

Little is known about the phone's software, except that it is powered by Google's Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) operating system.

According to the manufacturer, Samsung Galaxy Xcover will be launched in Germany initially, sometime in October.

Although the Galaxy Xcover's price is unknown for the moment, Samsung stated that it will make an announcement in due time.
