The Galaxy Camera is the closest thing yet to a merger between a smartphone and a digital photo and video camera.

The product actually debuted months ago, but has yet to reach all markets around the world.

Fortunately, Samsung has been making progress in that regard, having begun to accept orders, or pre-orders, in Australia, the US and, now, India as well. The price is of Rs 29,990 ($499.99 / £399.99 / 388-499 Euro, according to online listings).

All the relevant information about Samsung's Galaxy Camera can be found here. The highlights are a 16-megapixel backside illuminated CMOS sensor, a 1.4GHz quad-core Exynos SOC, Wi-Fi support, 3G/LTE Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system and 8 GB of storage.

Voice calls cannot be made, but Android apps will work perfectly fine once downloaded from Google apps and Play stores.
