This is the first time we see Samsung’s new flip covers

In anticipation of Samsung’s Galaxy Premiere event scheduled to take place in New York tomorrow, we are treated with a batch of new photographs detailing the Galaxy Tab S duo of AMOLED slates.

Even though the devices have been leaked numerous times before and we pretty much known how the upcoming products will look like, one aspect remained unknown.

Remember we told you that the tablets have proprietary connectors embedded in the back panel of the tablet, which are there to serve the new Flip Covers, Samsung will be offering with the tablets.

The folks at SamMobile have managed to get their hands on a few high-quality images of Samsung’s new Flip Covers, showed alongside the upcoming Galaxy Tab S too.

The cover will come especially in handy for the larger 10.5-inch model and as seen in the picture, the accessory acts as a stand as well as a protection folio against the elements.

The Galaxy Tab S line will arrive in 10.5-inch and 8.4-inch form factors and will take advantage of a Super AMOLED display that is capable of delivering WQXGA (2560 x 1600) resolution.

The slates will be taking advantage of the same fingerprint sensor we have seen Samsung’s flagship smartphone, Galaxy S5, arrive with.

Under the hood, Samsung throws in a chip from its harvest, in the form of an Exynos 5 (5420) SoC with ARM’s big.LITTLE technology (four 1.9GHz Cortex-A15 cores and four 1.3GHz Cortex-A7 cores, 6-core ARM Mali-T628 GPU with a clock speed of 533MHz).

The tablets will be fitted with 3GB of 32-bit dual-channel 933 MHz LPDDR3e RAM. Customers grabbing one of these babies will also find two cameras onboard (an 8MP one with 1080p full HD video recording and a 2MP front-facing one).

In the connectivity department, Samsung throws in a plethora of functions, including Wi-Fi 802.11ac, a/b/g/n Wi-Fi Direct, DLNA, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth 4.0 LE / ANT+, GPS, GLONASS and IR blaster (so you can control your TV using Samsung’s WachON service, something present in the Galaxy Note/TabPRO lineup too).

As for software, the devices will run Android 4.4.2 KitKat out of the box with Samsung’s own Magazine UX plastered on top. It appears that despite negotiating with Google to adopt a more stock Android looking user interface, Samsung has decided against it in the end, at least while its premium products are concerned.

Other interesting functions bundled within the tablet include Ultra Power Saving Mode, Remote PC, the possibility to place phone calls from a connected phone from the slate, Download Booster and more.

The new devices will be made available later this month, so keep an eye out for them.
