Samsung claims the problem is not widespread and affects only a few units

Samsung has launched its latest tablet duo, the widely anticipated AMOLED Galaxy Tab S not so long ago and it made a big deal about it.

Immediately after being rolled out in the world, Sammy launched a vigorous campaign consisting of ads and what not, in a quest to convince customers that an AMOLED tablet will bring richness to their lives.

The first units of these amazing tablets have already started shipping out to consumers across the globe, but even at this incipient stage, some customers are reportedly noticing some serious issues with the new tablets.

As reported by Hi-Tech.Mail.Ru, the octa-core processor running things under the Galaxy Tab S’ hood will get overheated after the tablet has been used for a longer period of time (as seen at SamMobile). Well, so far nothing is out of the ordinary, as this seems to be the case for a lot of tablets and smartphones out there.

But with the Tab S things are going south a little, with owners seeing the rear cover being damaged due to the overheating issues.

The publication has posted a bunch of photos showing the deformation of a Galaxy Tab S 8.4. To be fair, it doesn't look too serious, but the issue is indeed noticeable and with prolonged usage the damage sustained might become more significant.

The problem might be that Samsung is using the not-so new Exynos 5420 processor (which by the way, powers the Galaxy Note 3 too) which is pushed to the maximum in an attempt to sustain the high-resolution screen and its impressive 2560 x 1600 pixel resolution.

Even as Samsung was reportedly silent at first when being asked to explain the issues, the company has stepped forward and released an official statement.

The Korean tech giant explains the deformation experienced is to be blamed on defective back covers on some select units. Samsung makes a point in mentioning that overheating is not to blame and the problem has just affected a few items and is not widespread.

“Contrary to certain media reports, the slight disfiguration that has formed on the rear surface of the Galaxy Tab S has been attributed to a limited number of defective back covers, which has no relation to the overheating of the application processor or the material used for the back cover.”

“We would like to assure our customers that we have already resolved the issue. We ask affected customers to please contact their nearest Samsung Electronics customer service center.”

So, if you too are faced with something similar, you’re invited to contact your Samsung representative and get your faulty Galaxy Tab S replaced.
