Sammy’s new products take the crown of tablet displays

Samsung has recently launched its AMOLED tablet duo, the Galaxy Tab S with 8.4-inch and 10.5-inch displays, which aim to offer better screen performance than their LCD counterparts.

Since the release, people have been arguing whether AMOLED beats LCD technology, in terms of quality, but as it is with these debates, it’s pretty hard to reach a consensus.

However, the opinion of a research expert might stir people into adopting a certain stance. According to a recent report posted by DisplayMate Technologies, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S has been declared the best tablet ever tested in terms of screen technology.

Both tablets offer Quad HD 2560 x 1600 pixel display, proclaimed to be the highest tablet resolution to date, beating competing products like the Amazon Kindle Fire HDX and Apple iPad.

The 10.5-inch model has RGB Stripe Pixels with 287ppi, while the smaller version has Diamond Pixels and Sub-Pixels Rendering with a really exciting 361ppi (just like the LCD-based Galaxy TabPRO 8.4).

The new Galaxy tablet has really impressed the tester in terms of color and light management, coming out with the highest color accuracy, lowest screen reflectance and smallest brightness variation with viewing angle.

Unlike most tablets out there, the Galaxy Tab S offers four different screen modes to choose from, including Adaptive Display, AMOLED Photo, AMOLED Cinema and Basic screen mode.

As mentioned above, the tablets have been found to offer the lowest screen reflectance compared to any slate-product available on the market today (4.7%), so using the device in direct and super bright sunlight shouldn't affect your overall viewing experience that much.

However, the Galaxy Tab S did falter in the overall brightness department, being beaten by the Nokia Lumia 2520 tablet which offers 684 nits, compared to 546 nits.

That’s not a bad score, but DisplayMate feels Samsung could have done better and seems to be the only area where the Tab S screens haven’t received the Excellent rating.

“Both of the Galaxy Tab S display have very good to excellent screen brightness, but not as bright as the brightest LCD tablets.”

The new Galaxy Tab S tablets come to dethrone last year’s holder of the title of “best tablet display” which was awarded to the Amazon Kindle Fire HDX.

Of course, this translates into Apple’s iPad Air sliding further down at number three. Both the Kindle and the iPad take advantage of LCD technology.

Not so long ago, DisplayMate gave the crown of smartphone displays to Samsung’s recently OLED-based Galaxy S5 smartphone, which the research firm really loved.

So if you’re in need of a tablet with a gorgeous display, you should know the devices are already up for pre-order in the US, starting at $399.99 / €294.

Customers doing so now will also be eligible to win a complete “Samsung Tech Makeover” which includes a host of attractive products.
