Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless has just cut the price tag for the Galaxy Tab, the tablet PC that Samsung launched last year with Google's Android 2.2 Froyo operating system on board.

Initially launched with a price tag of $299.99 attached to it upon the signing of a two-year contract agreement with the wireless carrier, the device is now available for only $199.99 on contract.

Users interested in the purchase of this device without signing for a contract agreement with the wireless carrier would have to pay $499.99 for it.

For those out of the loop, we should note that Verizon Wireless has cut the price tag for this tablet PC at the same time that Sprint made the move.

This is a clear indicator that a new similar device might make its appearance on carriers' offerings, though specific info on the matter did not emerge for the time being.

If we were to guess, we'd say that Samsung might plan on bringing the newer Galaxy Tab 10.1 and 8.9 devices to shelves in the United States soon, and that the wireless carriers are clearing inventory ahead of that launch.

The currently available Galaxy Tab at Verizon can offer a 7-inch TFT display with WSVGA 1024 x 600 resolution, WiFi connectivity, support for 3G download speeds, and a fast 1GHz Hummingbird application processor packed inside.

The tablet PC also comes with a full suite of entertainment on–the–go, a 3.0MP rear–facing camera, 1.3MP front–facing camera, HTML Browser with Adobe Flash 10.1, and support for Google Mobile Services, as well as for applications available for download via the Android Market.

“Go above and beyond entertaining with the Samsung Galaxy Tab, the tablet that delivers enhanced capabilities with advanced portability,” the wireless carrier notes on its website.

“A large 7–inch screen offers plenty of room for the thousands of interactive games and apps available for the Android platform, and its slim design makes it perfect for travel and one–handed grip.

“The built–in Media Hub gives you the ability to watch as you download popular television shows, movies and other media, or use the Galaxy Tab to relax and enjoy an e–book. With so many options for customization and interactivity, the Galaxy Tab gives you everything you want, anywhere you go…and beyond.”
