The world may have been taken by surprise yesterday when it was reported that Apple had managed to get the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 banned in Australia, but it looks like this might not exactly be the case.

By now, consumers from around the world will likely be familiar with the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.

This is, essentially, the main star in Samsung's tablet strategy and, while already on sale in some areas, should come in more advanced iterations soon enough.

Either way, the company wants it to reach every country its business has reached so far, or at least most of them.

Unfortunately, it was reported yesterday that Apple had managed to get the Galaxy Tab 10.1 banned from Australia.

Now, however, a newer report says that the tablet has not been, in fact, banned form there, Samsung having provided clarifications as to what recent rumors really mean.

Basically, while Samsung reached a so-called “mutual agreement:” with Apple which did imply that the slate not sell in that region, but that goes for only the US version.

Samsung said it is working on a different variant for Australia, one that should come out in the near future. Just how this product will be different from the disputed one has not been made clear yet.

“A Samsung GALAXY Tab 10.1 for the Australian market will be released in the near future,” the company's statement is said to state.

“This undertaking does not affect any other Samsung smartphone or tablet available in the Australian market or other countries. Samsung will continue to actively defend and protect our intellectual property to ensure our continued innovation and growth in the mobile communication business.”

Whether or not the “mutual agreement:” involved any payments on Samsung's part is not known, but one can expect the legal showdown to continue for a while.
