South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics was rumored for quite some time to plan the launch of an Android-based tablet, the Samsung Galaxy Tab, and new photos with the device have just emerged into the wild, complemented by new details on its specs.

The Galaxy Tab is expected to land on the market with Google's Android 2.2 operating system on board, and the new photos seem to confirm that.

Moreover, they are also capable of showing that the new device should land on market with the model number attached to it GT-P1000.

We've already had the chance to take a look at the specifications list of this device, and, although none is official for the time being, the new leak is meant to confirm some of them.

According to Chinese site ifanr, which published these photos, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Tab should boast a 7-inch touchscreen display capable of a 1,024 x 600 pixel resolution.

Some of the previous rumors on the slate suggested it would arrive with the same screen resolution as the Galaxy S smartphone, but it seems that the screen should be better than on the smaller device.

Other specs of the upcoming tablet PC include a 3.2 megapixel photo snapper, support for 3G networks, or a built-in “ebook” app.

Wi-Fi (802.11n) connectivity and built-in GPS receiver are also included into the mix, as well as a front-facing QVGA camera.

There are great chances that Samsung would release two Galaxy Tab models into the wild, one with 3G connectivity and one without, just as Apple did with its iPad.

According to ifanr, the Samsung slate would be lighter than Apple's tablet, while being thicker than the Dell Streak. However, the device was only a prototype, Engadget notes.

For the time being, there are no specific details available on when might Samsung plan launching the Galaxy Tab on the market, but some suggest that it could announce it officially on September 3 at IFA, so stay tuned for more on this.
