After making a big splash yesterday at IFA 2014 with its new Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note Edge smartphones and VR headset, Samsung is taking the opportunity today to unveil a new tablet.

Samsung’s love affair with tablets is pretty well known, and the Korean tech giant doesn't let any major tech event go by without launching a tablet or two.

So here comes the newest addition to the Galaxy Tab lineup, the Galaxy Tab Active, which is a rugged tablet specifically targeted at the business environment.

Since this is the case, the tablet has been outfitted with reinforced security feats in order to guarantee the safe-keeping of sensitive information.

Contrary to what was thrown around in the past related to specs, the Galaxy Tab Active is not a rugged version of Sammy’s newest AMOLED tablet, the Galaxy Tab S 8.5. On the contrary, the slate turns out to be a variation of the less impressive Galaxy Tab 4 8.0.

That being said, it won’t surprise you that the tablet arrives with an 8-inch display with 1280 x 800 pixel resolution and relies on a 1.2GHz quad-core processor fitted with 1.5GB of RAM to keep things running onboard.

Business users will also be able to take advantage of two cameras (3.1MP on the back and 1.2MP up in front), 16GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD) and LTE.

The 4,450 mAh battery found onboard should be good enough to provide users with a sensible life cycle, which according to Samsung is 10 hours.

This is actually a detachable battery, so when you run out of power, you can quickly replace the used powerhouse with a fresh one and continue to go about your work without a problem.

As we said, this is exactly the same as the Galaxy Tab 4 8.0, but what differentiates the Active version from the original are its rugged capabilities.

The tablet is coated in an anti-shock covering which will shield the device in case of a drop (up to 1.2m / 3.9 ft). Furthermore, it is water and dust resistant due to its IP67 certification.

Since The Galaxy Tab 4 Active is a business tablet, Samsung is also giving you the opportunity to pair the device with a C-Pen, in order to provide an alternate mode of input.

The tablet will be offered in Titanium Green and with a Protective Cover on top. Currently, we have no information about availability and pricing.
