The update is now live in Malaysia via Samsung Kies and OTA (over the air)

Shortly after it has quietly kicked off the Android 4.0 ICS rollout for Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 Wi-Fi, Samsung is reportedly in the process of deploying an Ice Cream Sandwich update for Galaxy Tab 8.9.

However, the update seems to be available for the Wi-Fi version only. SamMobile reports that the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 Wi-Fi owners in Malaysia can now download and install the update OTA (over the air) or via Samsung Kies desktop software.

No word on when exactly the Ice Cream Sandwich update for Galaxy Tab 8.9 will be rolled out globally, but the firmware is available for download at SamMobile, so those who are anxious to flash it can do so instead of waiting for Samsung.

Keep in mind that Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich might be the last major update for Galaxy Tab 8.9, unless Samsung confirms that it will bring the Jelly Bean upgrade on this tablet.
