Though Samsung's Galaxy Tab 10.1 has been getting most of the attention as far as the company's tablet initiative goes, the Tab 8.9 might just come into its own just days after its sibling, provided recent reports are true.

The tablet market has already taken the worldwide IT industry by storm, and though many models ended up failing to impress or even reach availability, those that did garnered quite a bit of attention.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is only now getting to stores itself, but it looks like it might be joined by a slightly smaller slate sooner than some may have expected.

The product in question is the Galaxy Tab 8.9, obviously with a screen size of 8.9 inches.

Samsung, back when it spoke of the impending availability of the Tab 10.1 in the UK (set to happen on August 4, today), also made a passing mention of the 8.9.

This smaller but hardly much weaker slate was supposedly on track for release sometime later in the ongoing year (2011).

It turns out, however, that the arrival of this second invention will take place a fair bit sooner than some may have expected.

In fact, given recent reports about rivals ASUS Eee Pad Transformer, one might have surmised that, like it, the Tab 8.9 will come in October or later.

The listing on Amazon now says that the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 tablet will be in stock starting August 12, in the UK at least.

The price currently put up is £605, quite a bit on the high side, especially considering that fact that the 10.1-incher is currently at 569 Euro, which is fairly high in and of itself, compared to most other tablets out there.

Once shipments begin, the tag will most likely go own a notch or two, but just how much cheaper the slate becomes only time will tell.
