Prepare for a new infusion of Samsung tablets

Samsung is a company that’s constantly working towards releasing new tablets. And every year we’re bound to see multiple sets of devices roll out under the company’s banner.

However, for the last few months Sammy has been silent when it comes to tablets. We've only seen the company launch the Galaxy Tab Active, which is the first rugged slate the company has ever produced.

Even so, the Galaxy Tab Active represents only a re-branded version of the Galaxy Tab 4 8-inch, so it’s not exactly an all-new product.

Anyway, according to a report coming from Tech Tastic, Sammy appears to be ready to jump back into the tablet bandwagon, yet again.

A new Samsung tablet will appear soon enough

The evidence to support this theory was dug out from the lofty Indian import-export website Zauba. The database currently lists a tablet going by the model number SM-T555.

This is believed to be Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Tab 5 device, which will arrive with a 10-inch display and probably pretty average specs. Apparently, the cost of the device will revolve around $354 / €290.

There seems to be a growing trend with tablet manufacturers that are striving towards offering tablets will larger form factors. Apple is said to be working on its 12-inch iPad Pro monster, while Sony is also expected to roll out a 12.9-inch slob with 3840 x 2400 pixel resolution.

Even so, Samsung is no stranger to the world of big tablets. The device manufacturer already has the Galaxy TabPRO 12.2 and Galaxy NotePRO 12.2 devices out on the market, which were released back at CES 2015.

The Zauba listing doesn't mention anything about the specs of the upcoming Galaxy Tab 5, but given the specs of the soon-to-be previous Galaxy Tab 4, the tab shouldn't come equipped with mind-blowing specifications.

When the slate hits retail (probably in May or June of next year), we will see a device powered by a 64-bit Snapdragon 410 and running Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box.

Samsung is also prepping a budget-slate, a real one

Samsung also sent another tablet for testing in India, this time a budget one. So far, Samsung’s budget slates haven’t been all that wallet–friendly to begin with.

Take for example, the Galaxy Tab 3 Lite 7.0 which sold for $159 / €130. For this money, Sammy would throw in some pretty disappointing specs, including a 7-inch display with 1024 x 600 pixel resolution and a 1.2GHz dual-core processor (of Marvell origins), which don't really justify the price tag.

But with the SM-T116 tablet, the Korean tech giant will do some trimming price-wise.

Apparently, the slate will cost $101 / €98 and will bring to the table a quad-core 1.2GHz Speadtrum SC8830 processor fitted with 1GB of RAM and arriving with Android 4.4.4 KitKat pre-installed. No word on the resolution yet, but we’ll update you when that info becomes available.
