The slates were expected to make an appearance in Barcelona, but they failed to show up

Remember the Galaxy Tab 4 family which was teased previous to the Barcelona event? Well, despite not showing up in Spain, we now receive confirmation of their existence via the Samsung Gear Fit micro site.

The Mobile World Congress 2014 came and went, but there were some notable absentees from the show.

For example, we were expecting Samsung to officially introduce the new Galaxy Tab 4 family, but as we all know the Korean tech giant limited itself to unveiling smartphones, smartwatches and processors. But not tablets.

That doesn't mean the Galaxy Tab 4 line-up is a myth. A reference to the tablets showed up on Samsung’s own Gear Fit micro site, listing the tablets as being compatible with the fitness band. That means the tablets aren't long from being released either.

Now to refresh your memory concerning the tablets, whose specs have been leaked in the press before. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 7.0 code-named Degas, comes with a 7-inch TFT LCD WXGA display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 resolution (compared to the previous 1024 x 700).

The processor has been upgraded from a 1.2 dual-core to a 1.2 quad-core (probably Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 SoC) fitted with the same 1GB of RAM. Things have been upped in the battery department too, from a 4,000 mAh one to a 4,450 mAh.

Moving on to the Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 code named Millet, the device is expected to arrive with an 8-inch TFT LCD screen supporting a WXGA (1280 x 800 pixels).

Samsung has upped things in the hardware department by adding a 1.2 quad-core processor combined with 1GB of RAM, which we speculated might be an Exynos. Turns out, the truth is a little different and the slate will be packing a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 SoC under the bonnet.

Last but not least, the largest of the bunch, the Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 nicknamed Matisse, carries a 10.1-inch TFT LCD WXGA screen with 1280 x 800 pixel resolution, the same as the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1.

In the processor department, there’s a 1.2 quad-core CPU (possibly same Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 SoC) combined with 1.5GB of RAM (compared to the previous 1.6 dual-core with 1GB of RAM). Also note the enhancement in the photography department, where we now have an 8MP back-snapper and 2MP frontal camera (compared to the previous 3MP with 1.3MP).

All three slates are supposed to come running Android 4.4. KitKat out of the box. Anyway, since the Gear Fit is expected to launch alongside the Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo smartwatches somewhere towards the end of month, we can expect the Galaxy Tab 4 assembly to make an appearance before that.
