Samsung might be prepping a new tablet for us after all

IFA 2014 is approaching us at a quick pace, and like all self-respecting major tech manufacturers out there, Samsung is expected to make a splash in Berlin with some new products.

The Korean tech giant will be unveiling the Galaxy Note 4, and on top of that, wearable fans will be able to take a look at and handle the newest Tizen OS smartwatch, the Gear S.

In an earlier piece, we've argued that Samsung isn't expected to put any new tablets on display. Sure, we will get to see the latest AMOLED slate duo – the Galaxy Tab S, but these devices are already a few months old.

But according to new insight into the matter provided by Mobile Geeks, it looks like Samsung will surprise us with something new at the event.

We’re talking about the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Active tablet, which in all possibility will be very similar to the Galaxy S5 Active smartphone, which is a “toughened” version of the handset.

The slate showed up with a French retailer going by model number SM-T30. So what should we expect from the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Active? Well, the slate will apparently be offered with an 8-inch display, 16GB of internal storage and be offered only in a Wi-Fi friendly version (or at least for the time being).

The slate will be offered with Android’s latest operating system, meaning the 4.4.4 KitKat version. The retail listing doesn't reveal anything else related to specs, but we can assume this will be a rugged version of the premium Galaxy Tab S 8.4.

We can draw this conclusion looking at the price of this upcoming device. The tab will be sold for €399 / $524, which is the exact same rate at which the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 is offered in Europe.

So, we can expect the Galaxy Tab 4 Active to boast a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixel res (approximately 359ppi) and an Exynos 5 Octa 5420 processor fitted with 3GB of RAM.

Samsung is probably taking after Sony, a company which has been known to offer water-resistant tablets for a while now. That’s the idea behind the Active concept, as these devices are bundled with water- and dust-resistance.

Anyway, one Active tablet appeared a while ago in a trademark so the fact that it shows up now with an online retailer shouldn't come as a surprise at all.

Expect to see the new tablet at IFA 2014.
